The pros: you will lose weight after you have the surgery. The cons: you have to take the time to educate yourself on the after effects of surgery and be prepared to make lifestyle and dietary changes as well as take vitamins and supplements (without fail) for the rest of your life. If you dont go into the surgery prepared to do all this, then I would almost guarantee that you will have problems after the surgery not to mention start gaining the weight back after a year or less. This is not a magic cure for obesity, but a tool you will be given to help you keep the weight off but after the honeymoon period where the weight melts off, the really hard work starts. If you are not fully prepared to start eating right and exercising right after the surgery, you will have gone through everything only to wind up morbidly obese again.
You have to realize, too, that you will have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to having surgery. You dont just walk into a surgeons office and get scheduled for surgery! You might have to go through classes, you might have to be on a medically supervised diet for weeks or months, you might have to meet with a psychologist, have sleep studies or whatever else the surgeon (and insurance company) require. If you are not willling to do all this, then forget about surgery.
