The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Public Heath, is proud to announce the 10th Annual Faith-Based Institute Kick-off Event, as a part of the African-American and Hispanic/Latino Leadership Conference on HIV/AIDS.

We invite all people of faith to “Get Educated. Get Tested. Get Involved. Get Treated.”  The institute will provide a safe and supportive environment for faith leaders and congregations to explore strategic partnership opportunities with the state and other government entities, as well as learn about means of accessing pertinent resources for mobilization of their communities to address HIV related health disparities. The institute will also provide workshops to help provide valuable HIV/AIDS education and technical assistance, build skills for successful development of HIV related ministries, information dissemination, Testing, linkage to care and provision of supportive services.

Topics and sessions will include discussions regarding:
1) Why is it important for the Faith Communities to be informed about HIV
2) Potential funding available for Faith Communities to provide services to groups impacted by HIV
3) Training on implementing Faith-Based HIV programs

Our Key Note Speaker and Gospel Artists

Keynote Speaker:
Rev. Edwin Sanders, II
, Senior Servant of Metropolitan Interdenominational Church in Nashville, TN.
The lunch plenary will feature nationally renowned speaker, the Reverend Edwin C. Sanders, II, Senior Servant and Founder of the Metropolitan Interdenominational Church in Nashville, Tennessee. His congregation attracts a broad cross-section of people with the mission of being “inclusive of all and alienating to none” and has outreach ministries in the areas of substance abuse, advocacy for children, sexual violence, and harm reduction, in addition to providing services to persons infected with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS through the First Response Center, founded by Rev. Sanders in 1992.

Gospel Performing Artists:
Jon John was on the 2009 Season 2 of Sunday Best. Jon John was selected as one of the finalist; and still stands as the ONLY finalist in any season to be selected from Kentucky.

Richard Moore aka Radio Ricky is a host on WLOU gospel radio on Fridays 10am-12noon. Richard is also currently appearing in the stage play “In Love With Tyrone” that has been touring across the country.
